Clinical Molecular Geneticist
Clinical molecular genetics is a field of biology which focuses on gathering knowledge from genetics and applying it in healthcare.
Clinical molecular geneticists are responsible for identifying genetic abnormalities which could be related to diseases. To do this, biochemical techniques are used.
Clinical molecular geneticists analyze the results of experiments involving molecular genes, aiming to come up with accurate results.
Another responsibility of clinical molecular geneticists is to make sure their laboratory is clean, comes up with accurate results and that quality is maintained in the lab. When they compile the results, they send them to clinicians or other types of geneticists.
In order to become a clinical molecular geneticist, four years of undergraduate, three years of medical school and a doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., etc) are required. After obtaining a doctorate, twenty four months must be spent in molecular genetics laboratory training.
